SBC 2-day, Lodge-based, Gear List


When based at Clair Tappaan Lodge, bring:




Long underwear or equivalent (tights, etc.)

Insulative pants (for cold days); Normal pants (for warm, spring days)

Waterproof pant shells (waterproof/breathable is ok)

Synthetic upper tee shirt or equivalent

Insulative upper layer or equivalent

Optional thicker insulative upper layer (down sweater/jacket for women)

Down parka or equivalent (for when we are taking lunch outside on a cold, windy day)

Waterproof jacket shell (waterproof/breathable is ok)

Insulated gloves (cold day); liner gloves (warm, spring day)

Knit/Insulated/Fleece hat or equivalent (cold day); Wide-brim/baseball cap (warm, spring day)

Tall gaiters for over your snowshoe boots unless DSC00856wearing pant shells with powder cuffs that hook to instep laces.

Extra gloves and socks

Street wear for in the Lodge, slippers

Swim suit for the hot tub!




Sleeping bag for indoor use (though the dorm rooms can get “cold”)

Pillow (though, one with case is provided)




Liter/Quart bottle or bladder with electrolyte additives for each clinic/snowshoe trip out.

Quick snacks, but the Lodge will provide a bag lunch that you make (0730) before breakfast (0800).87800009

Knife or multi-tool, as desired.

Medications, vitamins, etc.

GPS (if you have one, otherwise no need)

Loud whistle

Dark glasses that fit the face

First Aid kit





Outside Toiletries: TP, wipes, carry out zip-lock, lighter, hand sanitizer (some of the clinics outside may last 3-4 hours)

Toiletries for use in Lodge (as needed)

Towel(s) for showering and hot tub use

Lip balm, skin cream, sunscreen




Snowshoes (any brand, rental or owned. The Lodge rents snowshoes, too)

Insulated snowshoe boots (“Snopac” boots of various brands, other insulated winter boots, or the Lodge rents boots)

Day Pack (that fits and can take weight comfortably)

Chains for the car (as needed)

Sit-pad (something to put down on the snow to sit on during lunch)
